All our lives we have been dreaming of having the perfect house but we have often overlooked the importance of a good or a perfect neighborhood. When we say perfect neighborhood, people often picture children running around in a huge park, couples having their picnic on the ample greenery of Setia Alam/Alam Nusantara, reminiscence of spring on front yards, easy navigation, biking lanes, fancy boutiques, and no vehicle pollution.
Having exercise yards is not all that’s important to a neighborhood. Your neighborhood needs easier access to health care or has sufficient community medical care implemented. Availability of healthcare in the community is determined by how medical-friendly the neighborhood is. Does it have a community healthcare center, or maybe an emergency room? Does it have an ambulance that is in perfect service and available immediately? Does health care in the neighborhood entitles the safety of disabled people by placing disabled-friendly parking, and other movement-friendly areas?
Believe it or not, the neighborhood has the potential power to impact our physical and mental health. It is for our mental health that we choose serene neighborhoods. What about the actual facilities that need to be in place for the safety of the community? This kind of amenities has become a true necessity in neighborhoods, especially after the pandemic. Families cannot afford to travel long distances just to see a health practitioner. They do not have the privilege of traveling in the middle of the night to get medical help.
It is no longer only about the emergencies that may or may not happen in the middle of the night. The medical care available in the neighborhood has a correlation to various health outcomes in the neighborhood. For example, high mortality in the neighborhood is often associated with a lack of health care facilities, essential and medical help in the community. On the other hand, a higher rate of children with diseases and health issues is also related to such a lack of medical necessities. Medical and health care facilities being around the neighborhood and even in the neighborhood is also a promotion for a better lifestyle. People in such neighborhoods are more likely to be active, educated, and aware of their own health status. They also tend to avoid unhealthy indulgences in the neighborhood like late-night fast food fests and alcohol.
Having community health care and medical assistance in the neighborhood is also a great money saver for those in the community. It is extremely burgeoning for both our mental health and our wallet to go into the city just for a medical check-up or an emergency medical need. However, having community health care nearby ensures cost-effectiveness as it cuts down our transportation costs. Most of these places tend to have community outreach programs that decrease the number of casualties and lifelong diseases that can get expensive.
Our health comes first no matter where we choose to live. Whether it is in the suburbs of Setia Alam/Alam Nusantara or Sepang, it is important to choose a neighborhood that accounts for the prevention of diseases.
